KHYBER: Members of Khyber District Press Club in Landi Kotal have condemned the police raid on the premises on Sunday evening and demanded an independent and impartial inquiry into the incident.

A meeting chaired by press club president Aman Ali on Monday termed the police raid a question mark over media freedom and the independence of press clubs.

On the occasion, Mr Ali said that masked policemen entered the press club without any prior notice or permission, terrifying journalists.

The meeting passed a unanimous resolution, calling upon all the stakeholders to ensure the safety and dignity of journalists and provide them with a secure environment to discharge their duties.

The resolution made it clear that no restriction on objective and free reporting would be tolerated.

Demanding an independent and impartial inquiry into the police raid, the meeting also decided to boycott all police events till the inquiry was conducted.
