KARACHI: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), Karachi Zone, on Friday claimed to have conducted a major raid on three companies allegedly involved in online pornographic animation and deceptive social media activities.

Speaking at a press conference at his office, NCCIA deputy director Shahzad Akbar said that they conducted a raid at Rabia City, Karachi, targeting three companies allegedly involved in production, promotion, and online sale of sexually explicit cartoon animations, pornographic digital content, and other digital designing services to international customers.

During the operation, 42 individuals, including company owners and employees, were arrested, while 45 mobile phones were seized for further technical examination and forensic analysis.

Regarding their method of operation, the officer said as per preliminary findings, the companies were operating through organised teams of online agents who approached foreign customers using various social media platforms, particularly Instagram and Twitter (now X).

Company owners among 42 arrested, 45 mobile phones seized

“The agents allegedly created and operated multiple social media accounts using fictitious identities, female names, and impersonated profiles to attract international clients.”

Through these accounts, they advertised and offered their services, including logo designing, banners, digital illustrations, animations, and sexually explicit cartoon pornography.

Investigators are examining the allegations that the agents used misleading identities to approach foreign customers and solicit orders for sexually explicit animated content.

One of the companies was operating for approximately the past two years and engaged in providing online logo designing, banner designing, and other digital artwork services to international clients. Around 19 mobile phones were seized from its office, the officer said.

Second company was operating with a staff of four individuals and was primarily involved in the online promotion and sale of logo and banner designing services to foreign customers. The NCCIA seized nine cell phones from there.

Third company had 17 staff members and it was also engaged in digital designing, animation, and online content services marketed to international clients. The NCCIA seized 17 cell phones from them.

About investigation and digital forensic examination, the NCCIA deputy director said the NCCIA Karachi Zone had taken the seized mobile phones into their custody for technical and forensic examination to determine the nature and extent of the suspected activities.

“Investigators are examining social media accounts, digital communications, suspected explicit animated material, and other relevant electronic evidence to establish the individual roles of those arrested, verify the allegations, and determine whether offences under applicable Pakistani laws have been committed,” said the officer.

The investigation will also examine the suspected use of fictitious and impersonated online identities in dealings with international clients.
