SUKKUR: Jacobabad SSP Faizan Ali on Friday constituted a fact-finding committee to look into the circumstances leading to the murder of a man at the residence of a feudal lord a day earlier.

The victim, Maqsood Jamali, was shot dead at the residence of village head Behram Khoso in Pyaro Khoso village, in the Thull Taluka of Jacobabad late Thursday evening and the RD-52 police had recovered the body.

The bereaved family alleged that Mr Khoso had called Jamali to his residence to settle a dispute, but got him killed by his henchmen. Mr Khoso claimed that Jamali was involved in his kidnapping some time ago and had fled the village. He told the police that on Thursday evening, Jamali returned to the village along with his four associates with intention to kidnap him again. He claimed that a shootout occurred between Jamali’s associates and his (Mr Khoso’s) guards during which he (Jamali) fell to the bullets fired by his own associates.

Jamali was a resident of Rojhan Jamali village, the police said, adding that while collecting the body, the crime site was inspected and evidence collected. They said that the police had recorded the statements of Mr Khoso and the bereaved family. The body was taken to the Thull Taluka Hospital for a postmortem examination, they said.

Speaking to media personnel, the bereaved family alleged that Mr Khoso suspected that Jamali was involved in an honour-related matter linked to the Khoso community. They said that being the head of his community, Mr Khoso had been seeking a compensation from Jamali and his family with regard to the matter. They alleged that Jamali was killed over his failure to pay the money.

SSP Faizan Ali told media personnel that the two sides had already been embroiled in a dispute. He held out the assurance that the matter would be investigated thoroughly to ensure justice.

An FIR of the man’s murder was not registered till late Friday.
