RAHIM YAR KHAN: In a joint operation by law enforcement agencies in Katcha area on Friday, a 28-year-old girl abducted 30 months ago from the settled area was recovered.
This probably is the first case where a young girl was picked up by dacoits from urban area of the district headquarters.
According to a handout released by police spokesperson Usman Iltaf, a special police team and intelligence agency personnel launched a “successful operation in the Kacha area and rescued the girl.”
District Police Officer Irfan Ali Samo told Dawn that she was abducted from Shahnawaz Colony on July 7, 2024, when an alleged dacoit Sabir Lund of Lund Gang kidnapped her by luring her through a marriage proposal.
He said Sabir kept her in isolation for two and a half years. A First Information Report (FIR) 499/24 was registered by B division police under section 365-B.
The DPO said several efforts were made in the past but police failed to recover the girl or arrest the outlaw.
He said on Friday Sabir and his accomplices took refuge in a nearby dense forest after seeing the police team.
“The police are continuing their pursuit of the kidnappers,” the DPO said. He said with the help of the intelligence agency police raided Katchi Lund area and recovered the girl.
Samo said a zero-tolerance policy is being followed regarding crimes against women and children.
