SAHIWAL: A schoolteacher was arrested on Friday for allegedly torturing a fourth-grade student in Chak 68/4R of Sahiwal tehsil.

According to details, Haroon, son of Allah Yar Rath and a student of a Government Boys Primary School, was studying in his classroom on Oct 19 when teacher Tariq Mumtaz allegedly entered the room in a fit of rage and started beating him with a stick.

Hearing the child’s cries, other teachers tried to intervene, but the suspect allegedly continued beating the child.

Later, the child was rescued by fellow teachers and he was shifted to the Sahiwal Teaching Hospital.

The Noor Shah police registered a case four days later on the complaint of Haroon’s father and arrested the suspect.

Police claimed that during interrogation, Tariq revealed that it was an act of revenge as the child’s father had testified against him in a prior complaint.
