HYDERABAD: Afzal Khalid was elected president of the Regional Cricket Association (RCA) Hyderabad with 14 votes, defeating former president Mir Suleman Talpur by seven votes in elections held at the National Stadium in Karachi on Oct 17.

Malik Muzamil was elected RCA secretary with 14 votes, beating Jan Mohammad Wassan, who secured seven votes.

Khalid belongs to Benazirabad district, while Muzamil hails from Badin. Talpur had served as RCA president for eight consecutive years and had been elected unopposed twice.

Office-bearers of the Hyderabad District Cricket Association, who were also elected recently, had Talpur’s backing. Despite this, he lost the regional body election. He has, however, resolved to work with the new RCA body for the promotion of cricket.
