LAHORE: The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) on Wednesday signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with three public sector universities to promote IT hardware innovation and research.

Under the chief minister’s initiative, Makerspace Punjab, the PITB has signed MoUs with COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, the University of Education, Lahore, and the University of Punjab, Lahore, to strengthen academia-industry collaboration, promote research and IT hardware innovation, and encourage technology-driven product development.

The MoUs were signed by PITB e-Governance Director General Sajid Latif and the heads of respective universities -- Comsats Lahore Campus Director Prof Dr Qaisar Abbas, University of Education, Lahore, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Aqif Anwar Chaudhry, and University of the Punjab, Lahore, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali.

PITB Skills Development Director Ahmad Islam Syan, representatives from the universities, and the Makerspace Punjab team were also present.

Through these partnerships, students, researchers, and faculty members will have opportunities to access specialised laboratories, technical mentorship, training and prototyping facilities.

The collaborations are aimed at promoting joint research and innovation initiatives, encouraging entrepreneurship, facilitating knowledge exchange, and bridging the gap between academic research and practical, industry-relevant applications.
