Arrest of ANP leader condemned

PESHAWAR: Awami National Party (ANP) central president Senator Aimal Wali Khan has condemned the arrest of the party’s Balochistan president, Asghar Khan Achakzai, from court premises, describing it as a mockery of justice.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Aimal Wali questioned the cancellation of Mr Achakzai’s bail and his subsequent arrest despite the complainant having submitted an affidavit and informed the court that he had neither nominated the ANP leader in the case nor linked him to the incident.

He questioned the motives behind the arrest, asking why Asghar Khan was being implicated in the case when the complainant himself had denied making any allegation against him.

He said that the complainant had categorically stated in his affidavit that he had not named Asghar Khan in his application as he had no connection with the incident. The complainant had also appeared before the court and reaffirmed his position, he added.

The ANP chief alleged that influential individuals had implicated Asghar Khan in the case over political differences. He said that the arrest, despite the complainant’s affidavit and statement before the court, raised serious questions about the administration of justice and the circumstances surrounding the court proceedings.

“If the father of the deceased himself denies nominating Asghar Khan Achakzai, why is there an insistence on implicating him in the case? Whether political differences will now be settled through criminal cases and arrests,” he questioned.
