No potable water for five days

Published July 31, 2006

VEHARI, July 30: Residents of Mailsi have been without drinking water for the last five days. It was learnt that electric motors of water disposal machines had burnt on Tuesday last which resulted in the collapse of sewerage system. Consequently, the sewerage water submerged several localities, including Quaid -i-Azam Road, Circular Road, Nathay Shah Road, Haripura, Rasulpura, Islampura, Dinpura, Mohallah Afghanian, Mohallah Rehmania, Mohallah Lal Jahanian and Madina Town.

In its bid to ‘resolve’ the problem, the Tehsil Municipal Administration severed the drinking water supply connections. Although the sewerage problem was solved on Thursday last, the TMA did not restore the potable water supply causing immense inconvenience to the people. They have to bring drinking water from far-off places.

A TMA official claimed that the water supply had been restored, but residents were still crying out for the potable water till the filing of this report till late on Sunday evening.
