FAISALABAD, Feb 10: The Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) will launch a countrywide protest movement if the government withdraws the graduation condition for candidates of assemblies.

Talking to newsmen here on Sunday, Faisalabad PAT secretary information Muhammad Ramzan Nasir said that some government officials were hatching a conspiracy only due to their links with the corrupt and illiterate politicians.

He said the PAT had also decided to start its election campaign from Faisalabad and a workers’ convention would be held at Zila Council on Feb 15 in this regard. PAT central secretary-general Major Anwarul Hussain Alvi (retired), provincial president Khalilur Rehman Chishti, and other central leaders would address the convention, he said.

Sincere and experienced party workers, he said, would be given various offices with the consultation of other office-bearers during the visit of the secretary-general.

He said tickets would be awarded only to the loyal and hard-working party workers after the approval of local leaders.

To a question, he said the PAT had already received scores of applications from various party office-holders, including some elected representatives of local governments.

He said the PAT had still not decided to make any alliance with political or religious parties, adding that some proposals are however under discussion with party central command.
