KARACHI, July 30: The Election Commission launched the 2nd phase of preparation of computerized voters’ lists as the governor of Sindh enlisted himself in the list at a ceremony at the Governor’s House on Saturday night.

Provincial Election Commissioner Chaudhry Qamaruz Zama, Joint Provincial Commissioner Mahboob Anwar and the registration officer got the signature of the governor on the voters’ list and received the form.

The governor appreciated people’s cooperation and the efforts of EC officials for successfully completing the 1st phase of preparation of computerized voters’ lists, which commenced on July 24 and concluded on July 28.

The governor lauded the initiative of EC to allow the general NIC card holder to enlist themselves in the lists, besides of computerized cards holders to facilitate the masses.

He appealed to the public to fully cooperate with EC officials.

He observed that it was everyone's national and moral responsibility to enlist himself in voters’ lists if his/her age was 18 years or above.

He stressed on women to participate in the drive and get themselves registered in voter lists, adding that no nation could make progress without the participation of women.

The governor was told that the field operation of preparation of voters’ lists would be completed by Oct 6 while the final lists would be published by May 30, 2007.

In the second phase, house-to-house distribution of forms II and III and receiving of the forms after these are filled by the voters, would be conducted. -—Online
