LARKANA: A nine-year-old boy drowned while bathing in the Rice Canal on Tuesday, while two other boys were rescued by local residents.

The three boys, from Mumtaz Colony, were bathing near Umrani Bridge, in the jurisdiction of the Rehmatpur police station, when they got into difficulty. Hearing their cries for help, residents rushed to the scene and pulled two of them out.

When the third boy could not be found, locals alerted Rescue 1122. A team arrived and carried out a search operation, recovering the body of nine-year-old Hasnain Ahmed Wagan, a resident of Mumtaz Colony.

The body was handed over to his family after the necessary formalities were completed.

Speaking to the media, the boy’s relatives said he had gone to bathe in the canal with other children from the neighbourhood.
