SUKKUR: Three armed men robbed a journalist and two of his companions at gunpoint on Bashirabad Road, within the limits of the Abad police station, adding to growing concerns over law and order in Sukkur.
According to the victims, journalist Ali Shah, along with his friends Bilal Arain and another man, was on Bashirabad Road when three armed suspects riding a motorcycle intercepted them.
The suspects allegedly held the three men at gunpoint and took away their mobile phones, cash and a motorcycle before fleeing the crime scene.
Police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and recorded statements from the victims. Officials also began collecting evidence to identify and arrest the suspects, police said.
The robbery has renewed residents’ concerns over a reported rise in street crime, including motorcycle snatching, theft, cash and mobile phone snatching, and armed robberies in different parts of Sukkur district.
Residents say that such incidents are being reported from the jurisdictions of all police stations, namely the A-Section, B-Section, C-Section, Airport, Abad, New Pind and Rohri stations.
Residents in both urban and rural areas have also complained about the alleged open sale of drugs, including crystal methamphetamine and hashish, as well as gutka and other harmful substances. They have called for stronger action against those involved in such activities.
Residents, particularly women and children, say the deteriorating security situation has increased their sense of insecurity while travelling, shopping or moving around alone.
Citizens have urged senior police officials to strengthen patrolling in sensitive areas, improve policing at the station level and take action against suspects involved in street crime and drug-related activities.
