LARKANA: Unidentified armed men shot dead a couple who had married of their own free will in Ghulam Shah village, about 60 kilometres from here, within the jurisdiction of the Qubo Saeed Khan police station in Qambar-Shahdadkot district on Wednesday.
The victims were identified as Nadeem Khoso, 28, and his wife, Naghma Khoso. The attackers escaped.
The couple, residents of Shikarpur district, had married through a court about four months ago. Sensing danger, they had moved to Qubo Saeed Khan, where they worked in farm fields.
Larkana DIG Sheraz Nazir took notice of the incident, contacted Qambar-Shahdadkot SSP Hassan Sardar Ahmed Khan Niazi and sought a detailed report. He also directed police to arrest those involved immediately.
Suspect arrested
Separately, Larkana police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested Yasin Ghanghro, the main suspect nominated in the FIR over five murders in Ratodero. He was picked up from the Maqbool Shah area, police said, calling it a significant development.
Five men were gunned down in a targeted attack at a shop on the outskirts of Ratodero on Saturday, police said.
They identified the deceased as Rajab Ali Ghanghro, his three sons — Riaz Ali Ghanghro, Qurban Ali Ghanghro and Bilawal Ghanghro — and passer-by Abdullah Brohi.
The police said that the incident stemmed from an old dispute between two factions of the Ghanghro community over ownership of agricultural land.
They said that assailants riding on a motorbike emerged at the shop and sprayed a volley of bullets and rode away.
Ratodero police also arrested Junaid Jalbani, a proclaimed offender wanted in the murders of Hanif Brohi and Rizwan Soomro, as well as in terrorism cases, at the Hasanpur area.
In another operation, they arrested Hafeez Sianch, a suspect in the Muzammil Joyo murder case, from the Selra Bypass area.
Police said the hunt for the suspected killers would continue.
