LOWER DIR: Excise and Taxation Department has completed profiling of around 130,000 non-custom-paid (NCP) vehicles across Malakand division as part of a province-wide drive aimed at creating a comprehensive record of such vehicles, officials said on Tuesday.

Speaking to journalists, Director Excise and Taxation Malakand Region Fazal Ghafoor said profiling centres have been established at key locations across the division in line with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s policy and directives issued by the Excise and Taxation Department. Excise and Taxation Officer Malik Mohammad Naeem and Inspector Khan Mohammad were also present.

Mr Ghafoor said thousands of NCP vehicles were operating in the division and the ongoing exercise was intended to document and identify those through a centralised record.

He said profiling of about 130,000 vehicles has already been completed and urged owners of the remaining vehicles to avail the facility before the expiry of the deadline.

Owners of undocumented vehicles to face legal action, says official

The official warned that action in accordance with the law could be initiated against the vehicles that remained undocumented after the deadline.

He said the department has also contacted the owners of vehicle bargaining centres and car showrooms across the division, directing them to ensure profiling of NCP vehicles in their possession.

According to the director, the exercise would help authorities maintain an accurate database of NCP vehicles and support law-enforcement agencies in tracing vehicles involved in criminal activities, including theft.
