State-run Radio Pakistan reported on Friday that two unarmed Pakistani civilians were martyred and another was injured in firing by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) near the border in Kasur.

Citing security sources, the report said that three residents of Ladhar village went a few steps ahead of a border pillar when the BSF “opened fire on them without warning”.

“The sources said two civilians were martyred while another sustained injuries in the firing. All three individuals were unarmed,” the report said.

It identified the deceased as Azmat Rasool and Mohsin Jutt, both residents of Jattan Wali Haveli, Ladhar.

“The security sources further said that none of the three individuals had attempted to cross the border fence. They said the incident constitutes a violation of the border agreement and the standard operating procedures governing the Pakistan-India international border,” the report added.

“Indian media, while continuing its tradition of a false-flag narrative, labelled the innocent civilians as alleged infiltrators,” the report said.

The development comes a day after Inter-Services Public Relations Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry lampooned India’s claims of “neutralising” a “terrorist” allegedly linked to the Pakistani military, presenting the individual during a press conference.

Asked whether the recent allegations could trigger another armed conflict between the neighbours during the press briefing, he affirmed that Pakistan’s armed forces were always ready for any such move and warned of “very harsh” retribution.
