BAHAWALNAGAR: Scores of traders staged a protest and blocked the Minchinabad Road to demand the arrest of the killers of a Grain Market merchant, who was gunned down by three unidentified armed men on Thursday morning.

According to the deceased’s family and protesters, trader Muhammad Shaukat (48), a resident of Khayaban-e-Hassan Society, went out for a morning walk on the Jalwala Road on Oct 1 when three unidentified armed men opened indiscriminate fire on him and he died on the spot. Rescue 1122 shifted his body to the THQ Hospital for autopsy.

Addressing the demonstrators, Grain Market Traders Association President Malik Abid Khalji and others demanded the swift arrest of the perpetrators, claiming that the target killing of a trader in broad daylight casts doubts on the police’s performance.

The demonstrators said that the administration had failed to safeguard people and traders and urged high-ups to take notice of the city’s deteriorating law and order situation.

Police said that a case was being registered and teams were raiding to arrest the killers.

FOOD POISONING: Six members of the same family were hospitalised after consuming toxic milk in Bakhshan Khan on Thursday.

He said that Mazhar Hussain (55), his wife Bashiran Bibi (47), and their four children were all affected by the milk.

He said that they were promptly transferred to the Chishtian THQ Hospital and were currently undergoing treatment.

HONOUR KILLING: The Saddar police claimed to have arrested a youth for allegedly killing his younger sister in the name of honour on Thursday.

On the day of the incident, the girl visited her parents, where her brother allegedly strangled her to death in the name of honour.

A police spokesperson said that the suspect had been arrested and investigation over the matter was ongoing.
