FGEHA asked to speed up development of Sky Garden Housing Project

ISLAMABAD: Secretary Housing and Works, retired Captain Mohammad Mahmood directed that the ongoing development works of Sky Garden Housing Project be accelerated and all related matters be finalised within the stipulated timelines.

Secretary Housing accompanied by Director General, Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA), retired Captain Zafar Iqbal paid a detailed visit to the Sky Garden Housing Project. FGEHA’s Joint Venture Partner Chaudhry Ismail, was also present on the occasion, says a press release issued by FGEHA.

It said that the secretary inspected various parts of the project and directed that unnecessary cutting should be completely avoided during development works. He emphasized that the principles of cut and fill should be followed to preserve the natural terrain and beauty of the valley. He further directed that the natural profile and scenic beauty of the hilly area must be preserved at all costs during levelling and land preparation.

He directed that available resources be utilized prudently to develop infrastructure that is sustainable, aesthetically pleasing and aligned with the residential requirements of the allottees.

“Secretary specifically directed that the pine trees and other natural vegetation within the project should be preserved to the maximum possible extent, and that development planning should be carried out in a manner that minimizes damage to the natural environment and green areas. He further directed that stone pitching be provided at suitable locations to prevent soil erosion and stabilize slopes,” read the press release.

He also directed that a comprehensive Water Channelization Plan be prepared while taking into account rainwater and natural water-flow routes, so that natural watercourses are not obstructed and effective drainage of rainwater is ensured adding that drainage and sewerage systems of the project be accorded special priority and that no drainage or sewerage-related issues arise at any stage of construction and development.

He emphasised that possession should not be handed over merely for the sake of completing the process; rather, the provision of all basic facilities must also be ensured so that allottees are provided with complete and quality residential facilities.

During the briefing, it was informed that the Sky Garden Housing Project has been planned by Asian Consultants, while development works on various packages of the project are progressing rapidly. Development works in Blocks A, B and D of Package-I have entered the final stages of completion and finishing. It was decided that possession of the said three blocks will be handed over to the allottees by December 31, 2026.

The briefing further revealed that out of the 4,255 plots in the Sky Garden Housing Project, 2,470 plots have been allotted. The process of finalizing various technical and administrative matters of the project is underway, and several pending matters are expected to be finalized shortly, paving the way towards the practical completion and implementation phase of the project.

DG FGEHA retired Captain Zafar Iqbal, according to press release, assured that the Housing Authority would provide all possible financial, technical and administrative support for the timely and quality completion of the project. He directed the concerned officers to ensure that all project works are completed expeditiously through effective coordination, integrated planning and adherence to the prescribed standards.

He said that the objective of FGEHA is not merely to hand over possession of plots, but to provide allottees with a safe, beautiful, sustainable and well-serviced residential environment equipped with basic amenities. He emphasized that no compromise would be made on the quality of development works, preservation of natural beauty, infrastructure and provision of basic facilities.
