TAIMURIA LIBRARY: The Taimuria Library in Karachi attracts a large number of students as it remains open on Sundays till noon. However, mismanagement and negligence have created serious concerns for students. The library has no drinking-water facility for male students. Many books are displayed on the shelves, but are not available to students for reading purposes. Most concerning is the lack of adequate security in the parking area. As such, surveillance cameras are often not functional, and students run the risk of having their motorcycles stolen. The relevant authorities should take immediate steps to improve the conditions prevailing at the said library.

AMBULANCE AND PROTESTS: Recently, I was driving on Shahrea Faisal and as I reached Nursery, I found the road blocked. An ambulance, with sirens blaring, was stuck behind me. I wanted to give it the way somehow, but just could not. No one made any effort to clear the way for the ambulance. The road was completely blocked, and paramedics could be seen treating the patient inside. Luckily, the driver skilfully made his way back and sped to the Baloch Colony Bridge. Protesting peacefully is the right of citizens, but hindering the passage of emergency vehicles is a crime. The protesters should not block the path of emergency vehicles.

NEW ADMINISTRATIVE UNITS: During an ongoing debate in the Sindh Assembly, the ruling party vowed to resist all efforts to have more administrative units. As a resident of Sindh since 1980s, I have seen the province go from bad to worse. The government seems to be ignorant of the plight of a common Sindhi regardless of the urban-rural divide. People based in rural Sindh have to travel for hours to reach Karachi to get their issues resolved. With several administrative units, they will have access to officials closer to home and, hence, have earlier resolution of their problems.
