ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) President Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani on Tuesday briefed national coordinators and representatives of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states on efforts to revive hockey in the country and formally invited all 10 members to a championship in the capital in December.
The visiting delegates, including India’s Additional Secretary and SCO national coordinator, also inspected the Naseer Bunda Hockey Stadium at the Pakistan Sports Complex.
The government and PHF jointly extended the invitation for the proposed SCO Hockey Championship, aimed at fostering sporting cooperation and people-to-people contacts among member states.
The PHF has asked the national coordinators to confirm participation of their respective teams by October 10.
Wani apprised the delegates of reforms under way to rebuild the national hockey structure and restore Pakistan’s standing on the international stage.
The coordinators welcomed the proposal, expressing interest and describing the initiative as a valuable platform for regional sporting interaction. Further consultations on technical and organisational details are expected in the coming weeks.
The visit formed part of the SCO Council of National Coordinators meeting under Pakistan’s chairmanship for 2026-27.
