KARACHI: The Karachi Metropolitan University (KMU) has established a Rs300 million endowment fund and awarded Rs14.7m in need-and-merit-based scholarships to 93 students enrolled in MBBS, BDS and DPT programmes, a statement said.
It added that the endowment is intended to provide KMU with a stronger and long-term financial foundation while supporting institutional development and future student assistance programmes.
The university has also received Rs5m in scholarship contributions from its alumni, the statement said.
It said that the scholarship initiative was funded from KMU’s resources. Of the 116 students who applied for financial assistance, 93 were selected following a comprehensive assessment of financial need and academic merit.
The statement quoted KMU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Wasim Qazi as saying that the university’s priority was to ensure that financial circumstances did not prevent capable students from pursuing higher education.
“At KMU, we believe that talent should never be limited by financial circumstances. When a student possesses the ability, commitment and determination to excel, it is our responsibility as an institution to create the opportunity for that potential to flourish.”
“These scholarships are an investment in our students and, through them, an investment in the future of our society. Supporting them today means strengthening the professionals who will serve our communities tomorrow.”
