Former nazim gunned down in D.I. Khan

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Habib Khan, a former nazim of Kulachi, was killed and his driver was seriously injured when unidentified assailants opened fire on his vehicle on Hathala Road here on Wednesday, police said.

They said Mr Khan was travelling in his car when unidentified gunmen targeted his vehicle with indiscriminate fire. Mr Khan sustained multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot, while his driver, who was later identified as Nadeem, was seriously injured.

Police and Rescue 1122 teams reached the site after receiving information about the incident. The body of the former nazim and the injured driver were shifted to the hospital.

Dera District Police Officer Ziauddin Ahmed said evidence was collected from the crime scene.

He said police had cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the attackers. No group had so far claimed responsibility for the killing, the DPO said.

Police said the motive behind the attack was being investigated and efforts were underway to identify and arrest those involved.
