ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday appreciated the success of the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme, describing it as a reflection of a “whole-of-government” approach.

While chairing a meeting of the National Steering Committee on Fuel Subsidy to review the implementation of the scheme upon his return from a “successful” visit to New York to attend the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the DPM noted that the information, IT and petroleum ministries, as well as the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra), the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and all provinces, had made “concerted” efforts for the scheme.

The deputy premier called for continued coordination to facilitate beneficiaries and ensure smooth service delivery across the country.

The committee was informed that 7.60 million registrations had been made as the token redemption process entered a second week, while 7.71m tokens have been redeemed.

Also, DPM Dar chaired a meeting of the Committee for Monitoring and Implementation of Conservation and Additional Austerity Measures and directed the officials concerned to ensure fiscal discipline and the prudent use of public resources.

“The committee reviewed progress on the austerity and conservation measures,” the Foreign Office said.
