KHAIRPUR, July 26: On the call of Abadgars Action Committee (AAC) more than 500 growers staged a protest demonstration on Sobhodero-Ranipur road and blocked it for one hour here on Tuesday evening.
The growers reached the spot of demonstration in processions from different villages on tractor trolleys and other vehicles.
They were protesting against officials of the irrigation department for lodging a case against office-bearers of the AAC and shortage of water in 11 minors of Sobhodero taluka. The protest procession was led by Ghulam Rasool Sehto, president of the Jeay Sindh Mahaz-Z, Khairpur district.
Speaking on the occasion, speakers said that the then secretary of irrigation had promised to provide irrigation water in 11 minors fed from the Faiz Nahar Wah in Sobhodero taluka. They said that in spite of fulfilling such commitment irrigation officials lodged a fake case with the Gambat police station against growers.
To express solidarity with the AAC a complete strike was observed in the Sobhodero town on Tuesday.
More than 100 growers of the Shahnawaz Wah, Kotdiji taluka, took out a procession from the Soomar Mallah village and staged a sit-in on Kumb-Babar Wada road for one hour on Wednesday.
The protesting growers raised slogans against the irrigation department for lodging fake cases against growers.
PPP leader comrade Basheer Mallah and others said that a fake case was registered against 11 growers, including Atta Hussain Chandio, former nazim of the Union Council of Bafo, Kotdiji taluka.
21 GROWERS BOOKED: About 21 growers were booked for water theft by Faiz Ganj and Mirwah police.
The SDO irrigation and the Darogha lodged FIRs here on Tuesday that on their visit to the Faiz Ganj Wah and Veeho Wah they found 21 growers stealing water from the two canals.
Mohammad Nawaz, Niaz, Mohammad Ibrahim, Amir Bux, Ali Dost, Agan, Qabool, Pervez, Ranjhan, Ghulam Qambar, Nazeer, Ghulam Abbas, Rustam, Lal Khan, Bhai Khan and others were nominated in the FIR.
