KARACHI: The attention of the Government of East Pakistan has been drawn to the report under the caption “Bibahita Tarunir Upor Pashabik Ottayachar” which appeared in the “Ananda Bazar Patrika” of Calcutta, in its issue of September 10, 1951, says a Government Press note issued in Dacca.

It is alleged that Prava Dasi, wife of Babu Panchanan Das, a sweet-meat-seller of Premtalighat, under Godagari Police Station of the District of Rajshahi, was abducted and raped by some Muslim members of the local Customs staff… . It is also alleged that her husband was arrested and detained in the Rajshahi Jail on a false charge of prejudicial activity and that in his absence the woman was again raped by a Customs officer and the Police Havildar and that … her condition became critical.

Enquiries reveal that the allegations are … false. Babu Panchanan Das was not arrested. He is living peacefully with his wife, Prava Dasi, at Premtalighat. He has … protested against the publication of such a fictitious and defamatory report that has done incalculable harm to the honour and repute of his wife and the prestige of his family. — News agencies
