LAHORE: The Lahore Zoo organised a special ceremony to name its hippopotamus on Monday, aimed at promoting wildlife awareness, conservation education and meaningful engagement between young visitors and animals.
Children from a private school actively participated in the event. Following an engaging and enthusiastic participation by the schoolchildren, the hippopotamus was named “Gabbu.”
The activity provided children with an enjoyable and educational opportunity to develop a closer connection with wildlife while learning about the importance of animal welfare, biodiversity, and conservation.
Such interactive initiatives are part of the Lahore Zoo’s efforts to strengthen public awareness and encourage younger generations to develop a sense of responsibility towards wildlife and nature.
The ceremony was held on the directions of zoo Director Dr Ghulam Rasool and under the supervision of Deputy Director Shahzaib Khurshid.
The event was coordinated by Education Officer Ms Kiran.
