QUETTA: Balochistan has achieved a milestone with the completion of its first-ever mass transit project, the Jinnah Peoples Train, which is now ready to be launched for the public.

The provincial government announced on Friday that the 32-kilometre railway track from Kuchlak to Sariab Railway Station has been fully upgraded. The project was completed in a record 120 days at a cost of Rs3 billion.

The route comprises seven stations: Kuchlak, Baleli, Sheikhmanda, GOR, Quetta, Lor Kariz, and Sariab.

The stations are expected to cater for thousands of passengers daily, providing safe, comfortable, and affordable travel facilities to residents of Quetta and its surrounding areas.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti expressed satisfaction over the timely completion of the project and announced that the train service would soon be opened to the public.

He said the Jinnah Peoples Train would significantly ease daily commuting for students, employees, traders, and other citizens by reducing travel time and expenses.

CM Bugti described the initiative as a major step towards providing modern and dignified public transport facilities in the province.

He added that the timely completion of public welfare projects was beginning to deliver tangible benefits to the people, reflecting the government’s commitment to improving urban infrastructure.

The train is expected to bring a significant improvement in transport facilities for Quetta and its suburbs, offering a reliable and cost-effective alternative to existing modes of travel.
