KARACHI: A suspected robber was shot dead while two passers-by were wounded during an alleged encounter in Orangi Town on Wednesday.

Orangi Town SHO Khamiso Khan said three suspects had snatched a motorcycle and mobile phones from citizens within the limits of Pakistan Bazaar police station. As they fled, area residents informed the police.

The police party chased the suspects and an exchange of fire ensued near Jumma Hotel in Orangi Town-05. One suspect, identified as Usama Tasleem, was shot dead, while his two accomplices managed to escape on a motorcycle.

The police said two passers-by, Ahsan Riaz, 27, and Aqib Mansoor, 15, were wounded in the firing allegedly carried out by the robbers. The officer said the snatched motorcycle and three mobile phones were recovered from the possession of the deceased suspect.

The police said the suspect had a criminal record, with several FIRs registered against him at different police stations.

The officer said the condition of the wounded citizens was out of danger. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
