KARACHI: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) completed a nine-wicket victory over Kingsmen Academy on Monday as the second round of the President’s Trophy Grade-I concluded, with two other matches ending in draws.
Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) drew with MIT Solutions, while Pakistan Television (PTV) and State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) also shared the honours.
Ghani Glass had beaten Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) by an innings and 14 runs on Sunday to move to the top of the standings with 35 points from two matches.
OGDCL’s victory took them to 31 points, while PTV (25), SBP (22), KRL (21), MIT (18), Kingsmen Academy (18) and SNGPL (16) are separated by just nine points, making the third round crucial.
At the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, OGDCL needed only 5.1 overs on the fourth morning to chase down the 121-run target after resuming at 85-1. Opener Waqar Ahmed remained unbeaten on 75 off 94 balls, hitting six fours and a six, and shared an unbroken 116-run partnership with Umar Siddiq, who made 40 off 74 balls with seven fours.
At Shoaib Akhtar Stadium, KRL resumed their first innings at 423-5 and were bowled out for 490, securing a 170-run lead over MIT Solutions.
Faheem Ashraf converted his overnight 28 into 69 off 135 balls for his 16th first-class half-century.
MIT Solutions opted to bat out the remaining time, reaching 167-9 as captain Hasnain Nadeem (62) scored his maiden first-class half-century.
KRL captain Iftikhar Ahmed claimed his third first-class five-wicket haul with his off-spin, finishing with 5-18 in eight overs.
At Abbottabad, SBP set PTV an improbable target of 293. PTV reached 64-1 before the sides shook hands. SBP had resumed at 84-4, holding a 48-run lead, and initially appeared vulnerable after PTV reduced them to 162-6. Haris Rauf dismissed SBP captain Ghazi Ghori for 58 off 55 balls, while Shahzad removed Rameez Aziz for 41.
However, Abid Ali (67) and Kashif Bhatti (64) used their experience to turn the game around, adding 110 for the seventh wicket. SBP declared at 328-8.
