KARACHI, July 25: The city district council will meet here on Wednesday to elect three members including a woman to provide representation to the council in the Public Safety and Police Complaints Commission (PSPCC).

The process of election began on Tuesday, with the filing of nomination papers and balloting will start on

Wednesday morning at 10.30am in the District Council Hall. Counting of votes will begin at 4pm.

Opposition leaders Saeed Ghani, Rafique Ahmed, Ziauddin , Abdul Razak Sangani and others in a letter to the chief secretary and chairman NRB Local Government Commission have objected to the method of election which they claimed were being held in violation of section 38 (c) Police Order 2002.

Accordingly, they maintained that election of three members including a woman for the commission was to be held on the basis of one member-one vote in a secret ballot. But they claimed that this method was not being adopted in the election.

On the other hand, they said each member was being allowed to cast two votes at the same time: One for male and the other for woman.

This is in dire violation of the Police Order. In the letter, they also alleged that the ruling group had been violating the rules set by the Sindh Local Government Ordinance (SLGO).
