ISLAMABAD, July 23: The team of Pakistan Army doctors and paramedics, which returned home after their seven-week long stay in Indonesia, treated over 30,000 patients and operated upon another 3,500 for major and minor surgeries in the 70-bed hospital which was fully self-sufficient and adequately equipped for necessary medical treatment.

The hospital had an advance operation theatre, laboratory, X-ray, ultrasound, dental and all other units required for medical treatment, provided X-ray facilities to 1,275 patients while ultrasound and lab test facility was provided to 242 and 3,124 patients respectively.

The team also vaccinated 2,174 people against tetanus and provided dental care to over 900 patients.

Pakistani troops carried out relief operations in Yougyakarta, Bentul, Kalaten the second most affected earthquake hit area of central Java in Indonesia.

Pakistan Army won accolade and goodwill for Pakistan not only among locals but also the international community. The noble work of the 15 specialised doctors, including lady doctors and 45 paramedics, have been appreciated at all levels.

Number of dignitaries which included high ranking political and military officials of Indonesia, NGOs and other international agencies visited the Pakistani contingent and appreciated the good work done by them.

An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale struck south east Indonesia with its epicentre 33km deep in the Indian ocean south of Yogyakarta in the province of Java on May 27.
