LAHORE: The provincial capital witnessed various ceremonies to mark the Defence Day on Sunday, where the national flag was hoisted and homage paid to the soldiers and officers who fought the 1965 war with India.

In this connection, a Hilal-i-Istiqlal flag-hoisting ceremony was held at the Lahore Town Hall. The event was attended by Lahore Commissioner Nauman Yousuf and DC retired Cap Muhammad Ali Ejaz, and officers of the armed forces. The ceremony commenced with the hoisting of the national flag, and sirens were sounded in commemoration of Defence Day.

During the ceremony, a police contingent and band presented a salute, while the scouts and Civil Defence personnel raised enthusiastic slogans of “Allah-o-Akbar” alongside the parade.

Speaking on the occasion, the commissioner said, “I salute the mothers and parents who raised sons who sacrificed their lives for the homeland.” He added that the spirit of bravery, hard work, and loyalty is deeply embedded in the soil of Pakistan.

UNION: A delegation of the All Pakistan Federation of Trade Unions, led by Khurshid Ahmed, visited the Martyrs’ Memorial at Batapur and the site where Maj Aziz Bhatti Shaheed embraced martyrdom in the 1965 war.
