KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday sent six activists of the Jamaat-i-Islami to prison on judicial remand in a rioting case.

The investigating officer of the case brought the six workers before the administrative judge of the ATCs and sought their physical custody for interrogation.

According to the IO, the JI workers, allegedly armed with sticks, blocked both sides of Korangi Crossing Road on Sept 3 and damaged vehicles passing through the area. He further stated that the workers were also allegedly forcing shops in the vicinity to close, as a result of which two old bikes were set on fire.

Opposing the request for physical custody, defence counsel Tariq Iqbal Malik argued that the alleged offence did not attract terrorism charges.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the ATC judge sent the suspects to prison on judicial remand.
