LAHORE, July 22: Candidates wanting to contest the election for the offices of the Punjab PML president and secretary-general will file their nomination papers with the election authority till 2pm on Sunday (today). Withdrawal will be allowed till 8pm.

In case of more candidates for one seat, the election will be held at the Muslim League House on Monday (tomorrow) at 10am.

Dissident MNA Farooq Amjad Mir said on Saturday that he would not contest the election against Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi as protest against the relevant authority’s failure to provide him with a list of voters.

He said he would call a workers convention during the next few weeks to expose the wrongdoings of rulers.

On the other hand, PML Chief Election Commissioner Kamil Ali Agha said on Saturday that he would facilitate anyone wanting to contest for any office.

Members of the provincial election authority met on Saturday to review election arrangements. Mian Zaman Qureshi, Qudsia Lodhi, advocate Alamgir and Sabir Sarraf attended.

Mr Kamil Ali Agha expressed satisfaction over the arrangements.
