KARACHI, July 22: As many as 63 people were deprived of their cars, motorbikes or cellphones in various parts of the city on Saturday.
Police sources said that 21 vehicles – eight cars and 13 motorcycles – were taken away by bandits. Three cars were hijacked and five others stolen. Similarly, seven motorcycles were snatched at gunpoint and six others stolen.
Forty-two people were robbed of their cellphones. Fourteen people were held at gunpoint by the bandits who snatched their mobile phones. Twenty-eight other people reported to the police that their mobile phones were stolen.
KILLINGS: Two men were killed in various localities in separate incidents here on Saturday.
A passer-by was caught in the crossfire and died on the spot in the Bahadurabad police limits. Abdul Aziz, 65, a resident of Sharafabad, was caught in the crossfire between the police and robbers near Gosht Market inSharafabad.
Area police said the bandits intercepted Mohammad Zikriya near the Gosht Market and snatched cash from him. Police noticed the situation and challenged the robbers, which prompted a shootout between them.
A man was shot dead by bandits when he offered a strong resistance to them.
Shaikh Mohammad Sadik, 29, a resident of the Mujahidabad locality of Orangi Town, was intercepted by bandits, who ordered them to hand over whatever he had. As he resisted the bandits, they shot him and fled with the loot. Sadik was sent to a hospital, where he died.
