SRINAGAR, July 21: Indian troops shot dead five militants in raids on two hideouts in a village in occupied Kashmir on Friday, the army said.

“The five were killed when army soldiers, backed by counter-insurgency police, raided militant hideouts in two villages in Pulwama and Kulgam districts,” army spokesman Vijay Batra said.

The militants opened fire as the troops moved into one of the hideouts, resulting in a gunbattle that left four guerrillas dead, he said. During a second raid, a fifth militant was killed.—AFP
