KARACHI, July 21: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) staged protest rallies outside mosques after Friday prayers against the assassination of Allama Hasan Turabi, failure of the government to arrest the perpetrators of the Nishtar Park tragedy even after the passage of 100 days and the government drive against the Hudood Ordinances.

Speaking at the main demonstration, organised outside Masjid-i-Alamgir in Bahadurabad, MMA Sindh president Asadullah Bhutto criticised the government for its utter failure in restoring law and order as eminent religious scholars, politicians and activists were being killed and despite 100 days to the Nishtar Park tragedy, not a single killer was arrested.

He said Allama Hasan Turabi, who was a symbol of the unity of Ummah, was killed during broad day light. There was anarchy in the city where life and property of no one was secure, Mr Bhutto added saying that this situation led to the realisation as if the government itself was involved in these tragedies.

The MMA leader said the police officials, who had taken part in the operation against the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were being targeted. He said the campaign against Hudood Ordinances was a calculated move but people of Pakistan would not allow the rulers to repeal the ordinances. He said Pakistan was created in the name of Islam and only Islam was its identity.

Yunous Barai said that in Waziristan and Balochistan patriot people were being killed while price hike and unemployment was increasing every day and terrorists were imposed on Karachi and Sindh.

Zubair Khan said that Pakistan was always harmed during military rules. He said despite nuclear power the rulers had reduced us to the level of the US and Zionists slaves.

Rafique Ahmad said that the US and Zionists lobbies consider Muslims as the biggest threat to their existence therefore they were targeting Muslims everywhere. He said people had to unite to face local agents of the US who were after Islamic laws.

Other mosques, where protest rallies were staged after Friday prayers were Memon Masjid, Hussainabad, Rizwan Masjid, Shadab Masjid, Safa Masjid, Azizabad, Makki Masjid Paposh Nagar, Alfalah Masjid North Nazimabad, Taimuria Masjid , Islamia Masjid, Ghausia Masjid , Bufferzone Liaquatabad and dozens other places which were addressed by various MMA leaders.

Meanwhile, the MMA legislators from Sindh alleged that pre-poll rigging had been started with preparations of electoral lists, saying teachers involved in the enlisting process were being asked to report to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement's sector and unit offices by the Election Commission officials, adds PPI.

In a joint statement issued here, MMA leaders alleged that pre-poll rigging practices were in full swing to repeat what happened during all the previous elections since 1999.
