LONDON: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reached the United Kingdom on Sunday, ahead of a five-day official visit, the Foreign Office (FO) said.
Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK Tipu Usman received him at London’s Heath row airport, FO added.
In a post on X, FO said the visit will continue from Aug 24 to 28 and include meetings with UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Minister of State for Pakistan Stephen Doughty, as well as other senior British officials.
“He will also meet with the secretary-general of the International Maritime Organisation to discuss the issue of Pakistani crew members held by Somali pirates aboard the MT Honour 25 oil tanker, in addition to a meeting with the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey,” FO said.
Shortly after reaching London, Mr Dar spoke with Uzbek counterpart Bakhtiyor Saidov.
The two ministers discussed matters of mutual interest and the upcoming SCO Council of Heads of State meeting in Kyrgyzstan. They reaffirmed brotherly ties between two countries and agreed to meet on the sidelines of the SCO summit.
DPM Dar is also expected to meet British parliamentarians and representatives of the Pakistani diaspora in the UK.
