RAWALPINDI: Police have expanded their investigation into the murder of a woman, arresting her husband and domestic servant while her father-in-law is being questioned over allegations that they tortured and strangled her at her Askari Apartment in Lal Kurti on Thursday.
The initial postmortem examination and police report suggested that the victim’s body was found lying in the washroom of her apartment with signs of torture, including a “strangulation mark around her neck”, an injury below her right lip and bleeding from her nose.
Police discovered her body partially hanging from a washroom shower, with her hands tied behind her back and a wire noose around her neck.
A police spokesman said the victim’s husband and his domestic servant, a resident of Mandi Bahauddin, had been arrested on murder charges as a team of senior police officers continued the investigation.
Police registered a murder case against Ms Hina’s husband who holds a doctorate (PhD), her 78-year-old father-in-law and a domestic servant on the complaint of the victim’s brother.
He said in the FIR lodged with Civil Lines police that his parents were elderly and had been ill for a long time. He said he had one brother and two sisters. His elder sister lives in Canada, while his younger sister, the victim, married the suspect in 2025.
He said he received a phone call from his sister’s father-in-law at about 6:53pm, informing him of an emergency and asking him to rush there immediately. Responding to the phone call, he asked his father and brother to reach the Askari Apartment.
He said that when they reached there at 7:23 pm, he found his sister lying in the washroom of her bedroom with her hands tied behind her back. Her mouth was stuffed with a piece of cloth, while a wire was fastened around her neck and tied to a shower rod.
He further said he was sure that his sister had been murdered by her husband, adding that he also suspected that his sister had been given a poisonous substance before being murdered.
Later, the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) team also arrived at the scene and collected evidence. Her body was shifted to the DHQ Hospital for postmortem. Police have also recorded the statements of the suspects, two of whom have been detained, while the victim’s father-in-law is being investigated.
