BAHAWALPUR: Lodhran city police have booked the husband and father-in-law of a newly married woman on murder charges after her death at Mauza Kowandi under mysterious circumstances, which was portrayed as “suicide”.
According to the police, the deceased woman, Rehana Bibi’s fatherGhulam Mustafa said in his complaint that about two months ago his daughter was married to Sajid.
He said that on August 12, Sajid and his father Sabir informed him on mobile phone that his daughter had allegedly died by suicide.
He said that when he, along with his relatives (witnesses), reached Sabir’s house, Rehana was found dead. He alleged that there were five torture marks and scars on his daughter’s body.

On an emergency call, the Rescue 1122 and police teams reached the scene and shifted the body to the DHQ hospital for the postmortem examination.
The complainant also alleged in the FIR that immediately after marriage, Sajid had started demanding jewellery and cash from Rehana on the pretext of purchasing a rickshaw.
On her refusal, Sajid had been quarreling with his wife, the complainant added.
Police have registered an FIR on murder charges against Sajid and Sabir on the complaint of the deceased woman’s father.
Police sources say that the case is under investigation and they are waiting for the initial postmortem report, to be issued by the DHQ hospital doctors.
‘ENCOUNTER’: The crime control department (CCD) and Uch Sharif police claimed to have arrested a suspected criminal in injured condition after an alleged encounter.
According to the police, a joint team at a picket near Badhowali signaled two suspects on a motorcycle to stop. Instead, the suspects allegedly opened fire, that was retaliated by the team. During the ensuing crossfire, a bullet fired by a suspect hit Constable Sajjad in the chest, but he remained unhurt due to wearing a bulletproof jacket.
The police claimed that the suspects’ motorcycle, in their attempt to flee, rammed into a roadside tree. As a result, one of them got injured and was overpowered by the police, while the other managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
The injured suspect, identified as Sajjad Kharl, as shifted to hospital for treatment.
As per the police, the suspect is wanted in 22 cases registered in different police stations of Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan districts.
The police registered cases against the suspect and his fleeing accomplice.
SUICIDE: A young man allegedly died by suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his house at 349/WB village in the limits of Qutabpur police station in Lodhran district.
According to police, Abdul Mannan, after a quarrel over a domestic issue with his brothers locked himself in a room, where he allegedly hanged himself from a ceiling fan with a rope. Dunyapur police reached the scene and shifted the body to local THQ hospital.
