PESHAWAR: Right to Information Commission, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has disposed of 600 complaints in two months against various government departments, expecting to end the entire backlog by the end of August.

The number of pending applications in the commission had reached 1,500 as the commission consisting of the chief information commissioner and two commissioners was incomplete, an official of the commission said.

With the appointment of new Chief Information Commissioner, Syed Nazar Hussain Shah, some two months ago, the disposal of application seeking information about the different departments has accelerated, a statement issued here claimed.

After assuming the charge, Mr Shah has emphasised on the importance of efficient implementation of the Right to Information framework and expressed his commitment to resolve all the pending complaints.

The statement further said that in the contemporary era, public participation in government matters, respect for rule of law, freedom of expression and association, transparency and accountability, legitimacy of government, and the like which are the core values of good governance, can be materialised only if RTI is implemented in its true letter and spirit.
