LARKANA: Mir Mohammad Amin Khan Mengal, a senior politician and an adviser in the Balochistan government, has settled a land dispute between the Brohi tribe and Sahar community while presiding over a Jirga (tribal court) here on Saturday.
The dispute had led to the murder of two Brohi tribesmen and injuries to a woman in an armed attack on their house in August last year.
The matter was put up before the Jirga by the aggrieved side for a reconciliation.
Mir Mengal heard the two sides and held consultations with his aides and mediators from the two sides.
The Jirga was informed that the land in question was situated along a section of Dadu Canal. It was further informed that in an armed attack on a home by the Sahars within the limits of the Radhan police station, two persons, Abdul Majeed Brohi and Ghulam Mustafa Brohi, were killed and a woman member of the family was injured.
Mir Mengal pronounced his ruling on the recommendations of the mediators, who included Dr Shahid Soomro, Murtaza Hussain Gorar and Javed Brohi.
Mir Mengal ordered the Sahar community to pay a fine / compensation of Rs25m — Rs 20m against the two murders, Rs2.5m for attacking the house and Rs2.5m for the injuries caused to the woman.
It was also ruled that the disputed land, adjoining the Brohi households, would be sold to the Brohi side at a rate of Rs1m per acre.
Following the verdict, prayers were offered for a lasting peace in the area. The rivals embraced each other to mark an end to their hostility.
The settlement defused tension in the area that had escalated sharply over the last 12 months due to the enmity between the two sides.
