KASUR, July 18: A woman was burnt to death allegedly by her husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law over a family dispute here on Tuesday at Vehgal in Mustafabad police limits.

Reports said Mumtaz had married Akhtar three years ago and had given birth to two daughters on which her husband and mother-in-law were not happy.

Two days back, Mumtaz sent a message to her father and feared that her husband, mother-in-law Jamila and father-in-law Rasheed Ahmed would kill her. Her father sent her uncle and cousin to look into the matter. When they reached Mumtaz’s house, they reportedly found her engulfed by flames.

She was rushed to DHQ hospital where she told the police that her husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law sprinkled petrol on her. Later, she succumbed to her burn injuries. Police have registered a case.

On Sept 21, 1993, the Pattoki additional district and sessions judge awarded them death sentence on three counts along with a fine of Rs50,000 each.

The LHC and the SC rejected their appeals. The president also rejected their mercy pleas on which the Kasur sessions court had fixed July 20 for their execution.

POWER OUTAGES: Citizens have again been facing unscheduled loadshedding for the last three days.

Reports said electricity remained suspended for more than six hours on Monday night in various parts of the city. Power outages continued on Tuesday as a result of which traders, especially cottage industry, had to face problems.

When contacted, a Lesco spokesman said loadshedding schedule would be announced soon.
