CHITRAL: The tehsil municipal administration (TMA) has temporarily suspended the supply of clean water to Chitral city after heavy flood torrents in the Garam Chashma River contaminated the main reservoir when muddy floodwater got mixed with clean spring water at the headworks of Angarghoon Water Supply Scheme on Wednesday, forcing authorities to shut down operations to safeguard public health.
Tehsil municipal officer (TMO) Chitral, Haider Ayub Khan, told local media personnel that relevant department officials and technical staff are continuously monitoring the water quality.
He assured residents that the supply would be restored without delay as soon as the water becomes safe and useable.
The municipal administration has apologised to citizens for the temporary inconvenience. Mr. Khan appealed to the public to exercise extreme caution in water usage and completely avoid unnecessary or excessive consumption to avoid a severe crisis during the likely scarcity.
“We are fully aware of the difficulties faced by the public due to the water suspension in flood-affected areas,” the TMO said.
He added that the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) staff was working day and night on restoration efforts while trying to ensure the timely provision of alternative water to the affected residents and urged the public to fully cooperate with the department to help expedite the restoration process.
