BANNU: Health workers staged protests across Bannu district on Wednesday against alleged abduction of Nawab Khan Wazir, president of All Paramedical Association Bannu, and demanded his immediate and safe recovery.

The protest demonstration, held outside the office of district health officer, was attended by doctors, paramedics and employees from DHO Office, district headquarters hospital, Women and Children Hospital and Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital.

During the protest, demonstrators blocked the city’s main road in front of the Women and Children Hospital for all types of traffic, causing severe congestion and inconvenience to commuters.

The general secretary of All Paramedical Association said the district administration has been given a six-hour ultimatum to ensure Nawab Khan Wazir’s recovery.

He warned that if he was not recovered within the stipulated period of time, the protest movement would be expanded across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to available information, Nawab Khan Wazir was allegedly abducted by unidentified individuals from Mamandkhel Wazir area of Bakakhel tehsil, which falls within the jurisdiction of Cantonment police station.

The association also announced a boycott of all health services in government hospitals across Bannu from today (Friday), except emergency services.

Meanwhile, police have yet to issue a detailed official statement regarding the incident and no official information has been released about Nawab Khan Wazir’s whereabouts or condition.
