LAHORE: A special (anti-rape) court on Tuesday issued a fresh notice to Defence C police, directing them to produce the record in a post-arrest bail petition filed by one of the suspects in the case of two foreign women’s alleged abduction and rape.

As the court took up the bail petition, it was informed that the police did not present the case record in response to a notice issued last week.

The court issued a fresh notice to the investigating officer to furnish the record on July 30.

The petition filed through Advocate Salman Shahid argues that the petitioner/suspect had been falsely implicated in the case due to defective, selective and unfair investigation.

It states that no specific allegation or role had been attributed to the petitioner in the FIR, and that he was a member of the janitorial staff at the property where the incidents narrated in the FIR allegedly occurred.

Even no evidence of the petitioner’s presence at the time of the alleged occurrence had been presented by the police, it says.

The petition asks the court to release the petitioner on bail, as there is no need to keep him behind bars.

Initially, the police had arrested four suspects, including one related to a senior political figure, in the case. Later, it arrested three more suspects, including the petitioner.
