MANSEHRA: The district administration on Tuesday warned of legal action against social media influencers and TikTokers who uploaded old videos of natural disasters and portrayed them as recent incidents, claiming that such content was damaging for the tourism industry in Kaghan Valley.

“The situation in Kaghan Valley has largely returned to normal. The water level in the Kunhar River has receded by nearly 50 per cent compared to last week, while the Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad Road connecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Gilgit-Baltistan via Babusar Top and the road from Naran to Lake Saiful Muluk have been fully reopened,” assistant commissioner Balakot Hasrat Khan told reporters.

He said the district administration has remained in constant contact with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and strictly followed its guidelines in issuing travel and weather advisories for the safety of tourists.

“Due to the effective coordination and prompt response of the district administration and other departments, no fatalities were reported in Balakot tehsil during the recent cloudbursts, flash floods and landslides,” he said.

Mr Khan said the administration has also taken action against people whorisked their lives in swollen rivers. “We arrested 36 people who endangered their lives by attempting to retrieve floating timber logs and saved several people’s lives including TikTokers who drove their vehicle into Kunhar River,” he said.
