NAROWAL: A youth allegedly drowned in a rainwater drain on Friday near Bola Bajwa village on Zafarwal Road.

A spokesperson for Rescue 1122 said quoting witnesses that the youth, later identified as Ahmar Shahzad (20) was returning home, after taking tuition, along the bank of the rainwater drain, when he lost his balance and fell into deep water.

Responding to an emergency call, Rescue 1122 teams, including divers reached the spot and launched an operation to find the youth.

The spokesperson said that the divers, using line search, scuba diving and other modern techniques, retrieved the youth’s body from the drain after 70 minutes of continuous efforts.

After completing legal procedure, the rescuers handed over the body to the relatives of the deceased.

The district emergency officer says that eight rescuers participated in the search operation. He appealed to the people to keep their children away from rivers, canals, rainwater drains and ditches during the rainy season and immediately call on helpline 1122 in case of an emergency.
