PESHAWAR, July 16: The NWFP government plans to establish 210 new girls’ primary schools during the current fiscal year with a view to enhancing female literacy rate in the province.

According to official sources, the government would increase female enrolment ratio at the primary level from 68 to 70 per cent in the current year. To encourage girls, the government would give Rs200 stipend to each deserving girl student while female teachers living in far-flung area would be given Rs1,000 special monthly allowance.

Overall ratio of male and female students would be increased in both public and private sector schools. The enrolment of girls at middle- and high-level private and public sector schools would also be increased.

Besides setting up new primary schools for girls the government would also establish 90 primary schools for boys.

Free text books would be distributed among 3.3 million students of both genders and provision of clean drinking water would be ensured in 2,000 schools.

The government would construct boundary wall of 200 schools and upgrade 200 primary and 100 middle schools during the current fiscal year. It would construct new building for 220 high schools while it would add 1,300 classrooms in different schools.

With the assistance of the federal government 143 primary schools would be upgraded and 229 additional classrooms would be constructed in middle and high schools.

Besides, the provincial government would construct 50 mosque-schools and set up 3,000 adult literacy centres. The government would make arrangement for in-service training to 25,000 female teachers, the sources added.

New cadet colleges would be set up in Swat and Charsadda and two new male and female degree colleges in different districts.

Ten new blocks would be constructed for promotion of information technology while hostel facility would be provided to both teachers and students in six colleges.

Another target set for the present year is construction of post graduate blocks in four colleges.—APP
