KARACHI, July 16: Speakers at a lecture on Sunday urged people suffering from diabetes to take a balanced diet, having a fair share of vegetables, avoid sugar and exercise regularly to control the disease and lead a normal life.

They were speaking at the community awareness lecture organised by Al-Mustafa Welfare Society at ST 1, Block 13 C, opposite Baitul Mukarram Mosque in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

They said that increase in the consumption of water and food, and the urge to urinate more than normal, weight loss, delayed healing of even a minor injury were some symptoms of diabetes, and one noticing such symptoms should immediately seek medical assistance. They also suggested that organ meat – brain, kidney, liver, etc – should be avoided to control weight and vegetables, particularly having fibers, be increased in the meals along with white meat. —Staff Reporter
